Jashemski did extensive research on Pompeii and excavated there from 1964 forward. Her work there involved scholarly investigations of ancient gardens. Stanley was her photographer and together they produced over 30,000 photos.
From 1961 to 1983 she directed the University of Maryland's digs . By 1980 she had excavated 600 ancient gardens and received an honorary Doctors of Humanities degree from University of Nebraska.
