Vivian Douglas Smith

Not a Nebraska author. In 1972, Ruth Morgan Smith, a Nebraska resident, gave her daughter-in-law, Vivian Douglas Smith, a Virginia writer and teacher, her unpublished diary and letters, recording her experiences on the Nebraska farm during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Vivian Smith turned turned these into a dramatic work, "Look Up at Hawks," presented on National Public Radio and at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. Later, the edited diaries were published in a book with the same title. Retained in the database for this connection, and for correspondence between Vivian Smith and the Heritage Room curator in Vivian Smith's file.
