Pete Czura's work was published in more than 240 magazines around the world and his wildlife photography appeared on more than 250 major magazine covers. He served as President of the Outdoor Writers Association of America and of the Great Lakes Outdoor Writers. He came to Nebraska in 1960 to serve as associate editor of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission's monthly Outdoor Nebraska. He was a well known Washington Street (a street in Lincoln, Nebraska) character: He was a vocal early opponent of the Norden Dam project on Nebraska's Niobrara River. He opposed bans on motorized rafts proposed for the Colorado River, which he described as favoring the rich over ordinary people. And he was also well known as an opponent of gun control.
