Joern's 2014 collection of short stories, In Reach won the 2015 Nebraska Book Award, the 2017 Nebraska 150 Books Honor, and was a finalist for the 2015 Minnesota Book Award. Her novels have been set in Western Nebraska. Her adult novels have also attracted what librarians call "Young Adult" (or "YA") interest and an Alex award. She is a well-produced playwright in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area, where she now lives, with six plays produced locally. She has a website.
