Mary C. Hartzell wrote the screenplay for the Chadron, NE based Black Hills Feature Film Company for what would become the 1916 feature film,Wild Bill and Calamity Jane in the Days of '75 and '76. Mrs. Hartzell's daughter, Freeda Hartzell Romine, starred as Calamity Jane and A.L. Johnson was Wild Bill Hickock, Mrs Hartzell also starred in the film as Calamity Jane's mother.
