He studied business and penmanship at Bryan & Stratton's Business College at Buffalo, NY. A businessman and master penman, he found enjoyment in fancy scroll work, lettering and designs and in the pastime of writing letters. He loved to study a variety of subjects and his home library had over four thousand volumes. He served in the civil war and saw President Lincoln on several occasions and was in Washington on April 14, 1965, when the president was assassinated. He moved to Lincoln, NE in 1906 where he joined his son, Frank Darrow.
