Kwakiutl L. Dreher

Kwakiutl L. Dreher is Associate Professor English and Ethinic Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dreher was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, and much of her work borrows from her experience growing up in the South. She has been conducting research on African American literature since 1970. Dreher is a performer, poet, and playwright; she writes and performs her own music and plays, most notably her own one-woman show, “In a Smoke Filled Room, Color Matters”. Her manuscript, Dancing on the White Page: Black Women Entertainers Writing Autobiography was published in 2008 by the State University of New York Press. She has been published in several journals and collections.
