Ducey, who describes himself as a "fifth generation Nebraskan" is a well known regional expert on birds, related ecological topics and historic ornithology. He served as president of the Audubon Society of Omaha and Chair of the Nebraska Audubon Council. His blog, Wildbirds Broadcasting, has followed birds, local ecology, land management practices, legislation, government policies, historic ornithology, journalistic practices, and local events as they relate to Nebraska's natural environment and birds. He contributed the newspaper articles that form the basis for the UNL hosted Birds of Nebraska: Newspaper Accounts, 1854-1923 online archive.
