Steinbrook lists his influences as his Nebraska farm upbringing, membership and involvement in the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, military experience as a US Army officer both in peace and war, and an interest in history from his earliest memories. Has written a well received military memoir based on his experiences in Vietnam.
