Forrest M. Stith

The author, the grandson of an escaped slave who came to Nebraska looking for opportunity, spent his early life in the Sandhills. He served as a US Army chaplain in the South Pacific before returning to Lincoln and to pastor Newman United Methodist Church. In 1955, Stith would become Lincoln Public School's first African American educator.
