Nebraska City native David Stonecypher served in the Merchant Marine during and after World War II. After obtaining his medical degree from the University of Chicago, he served as a doctor and Captain in the Army from 1957 to 1964. Stonecypher had a long career as an opthamologist. He wrote his book about caring for the elderly as he himself approached old age.
