Manton taught Social Studies at Robin Mickle middle school from 1967-1987. After retiring, she worked as a curriculum consultant for Lincoln Public Schools. LPS honored her for her role in developing the Student Vote Project and as the author of the third-grade textbook on the history of Lincoln. She was also very active in Common Cause Nebraska, serving as a board member, as President and as State Governing Board Chair from 2001-2009.
