Stewart was a military man who made a career as a reporter and journalist. He was the founder of the Sun newspaper in Lincoln, NE, in 1961. He also wrote a monograph on friend Ben Kuroki that was used as the basis for an ETV documentary. Stewart served with Kuroki in World War II. Stewart's book Ploesti: The Great Ground-Air Battle of August has been called the definitive history of one of the greatest aviation battles in history; the book has been printed 15 times and has been translated into at least 4 languages.
