Ann Bleed

Former Nebraska State Hydrologist (appointed 1988), former Deputy Director and former Director State Department of Natural Resources, Bleed helped the state negotiate settlements of two interstate lawsuits involving the North Platte Decree and the Republican River Compact filed with the U.S. Supreme Court. She helped to create the Platte River Recovery and Implementation Program, a federal and three-state (Nebraska, Colorado, and Wyoming) program to provide water and habitat on the Platte River to meet requirements of the federal Endangered Species Act. Bleed is recognized as having had great influence over policies regarding surface and groundwater in Nebraska and as having helped to raise issues that will continue to impact water policies in the future.
